The aim of this project is to explore and facilitate Sustainable Development in the Built Environment across the Interreg IIIa Euroregion.

A network of professionals focussing on the Sustainable Development of the Built Environment will be developed and maintained facilitating the exchange of expertise, best practice and procedures on both sides of the Channel. The network will enhance interregional cooperation between academics, professionals, environmental organisations and SMEs involved and create the opportunity for collaboration with regional professionals, businesses and education providers.

 
 
 
 

In order to achieve the aim the following objectives will be met :

  • Identify current practice and the key organisations and businesses involved in built environment influencing sustainable development
  • Evaluate current practice against principles of sustainable development
  • Determine and disseminate regional best practice for sustainable development and management of the built environment
  • Develop and build on the outcomes of the INTERREG II ARTEPA project, a network of regional centres for research, transfer of technology and dissemination of best practice for sustainable development in the built environment
  • Develop a web based unified centre of excellence as a bilingual portal for the collaborative dissemination

The following actions are envisaged to meet the above objectives:

  • Organisation of two colloquia, one in each region
  • Organisation of two exhibitions, one in France and one in the UK. They will involve SMEs, professionals, local authorities, environmental organisations, publishers and academics.
  • Evaluation and recommendation of sustainable building assessment tools
  • Establish databases of regional professional expertise, sources of regional sustainable products and resources. These will be linked to the Skills Directory currently being proposed by other Interreg applicants.
  • Measurement and evaluation of use of specific sustainability issues including renewable solar energy, materials and indoor environment
  • Study a of minimum of 24 case studies, 12 French and 12 English and publish results in bilingual documentation
  • Collation and dissemination of regional best practice with respect to the sustainable built environment
  • Creation and maintenance of web based Centre of Excellence in sustainable built environment
  • Wide dissemination of the project
